➡️ How long have you been cubing, and how did you get into cubing?
- I’ve known how to solve a cube since 2018 but I started speedcubing in 2019 , the way I got into cubing was this , I saw an unsolved cube in a crazystore so I bought it and solved it and was instantly hooked

➡️ What is your favourite event and why?
- Its between Sq1 , 5x5 and 3x3 One Handed , Sq1 because its my highest ranked event and the event I have records in , 5x5 because its an event that is longer and very enjoyable to do , and 3x3 One Handed because its similar to normal 3x3 but a bit of an extra challenge and alot more fun

➡️ What do you feel is your biggest cubing achievement so far?
- Probably my Sq1 Records and my 2022 Sq1 African Championships Title

➡️ What would be your bucket list cubing event to go to?
- I would love to go to a world championships , preferably one in Europe

➡️ Describe your first cubing competition
- I was very excited and instantly had good connections with everyone there and I remember being amazed by Ruben’s 44 second 4x4 solve and Taariq’s sq1 solves

➡️ What do you do outside of cubing?
- I love playing 8 Ball Pool and even used to own my own pool table , I also love painting , watching movies and especially hanging out with my best friend Gerald

➡️ Give us an interesting, non cubing related, fact about yourself
- Aside from cubing competitions I also have trophies/medals/podiums in other events such Mathematics , Chess and Engineering competitions

➡️ How long have you been cubing, and how did you get into cubing?
- I have been cubing for almost 4 years now, and started in the middle of lockdown. I learned how to solve a 2x2 that I was always playing around with but never could solve it, eventually it broke and I made a challenge with my parents. If I learned how to solve a 3x3 under 3 minutes I could get a bundle of new cubes. And 2nd try of timing myself I got the cubes and started speedcubing

➡️ What is your favourite event and why?
- I have 3 favourite events and would do any of them anytime. 3x3, 5x5, and then Square-1! I just love doing solves with them

➡️ What do you feel is your biggest cubing achievement so far?
- I have two that I am very proud of and thankful for. Definitely going to Worlds 2023 Korea with my good friend Daniel Rush. 2nd would also be getting my AfR 2 solve for 3x3 single of 6.19.

➡️ What would be your bucket list cubing event to go to?
- Most likely Worlds 2025 in Seattle. A lot of my international friends are planning to go, and I really want to see them again.

➡️ Describe your first cubing competition
- Mine was about 2 years ago now in 2022, it was the first cubing comp in Cape Town since lockdown. And I just loved judging and meeting a lot of cubers. Some really good times for my first comp which I was really happy about!

➡️ What do you do outside of cubing?
- I do a lot of sport, such as Baseball and softball. Im even a “serious” gamer sometimes!

➡️ Give us an interesting, non cubing related, fact about yourself
- Before cubing became my main hobby, I was very into beatboxing and still mostly am! I still try and keep up with the community.

➡️ How long have you been cubing, and how did you get into cubing?
- I’ve been cubing for about 8 years now. My first encounter with the cube was back in 2015 when a friend would bring his cube to class. We learnt to solve it then, but then he stopped bringing his cube to school and I forgot all about it. The real obsession however only started a year later when I tried to race someone after not practicing for a year. Obviously I lost, but because of that I saved up for my first cube, started watching YouTube videos to get faster, and that was it.

➡️ What is your favourite event and why?
- The OG 3x3. I only did 3x3 for the first 4-5 years of cubing, so yeah.

➡️ What do you feel is your biggest cubing achievement so far?
- Probably winning the Nigerian Championship in 2022. My cubing YouTube channel as well, if that counts

➡️ What would be your bucket list cubing event to go to?
- Definitely any world champs. That’d be sick

➡️ Describe your first cubing competition
- Lagos open 2022. That was a fun one cos I met many of my cubing friends for the first time IRL. it really felt good to see a bunch of people who enjoy the same thing you do. Also came out with some great results despite it being my first comp

➡️ What do you do outside of cubing?
- I exist :) I also do filmmaking and media. I enjoy playing the piano as well.

➡️ Give us an interesting, non cubing related, fact about yourself
- I can juggle 5 balls

Meet the cuber at African Champs, Daniel David Mizen! @danielmizen2006 (18) from South Africa!

➡️ How long have you been cubing, and how did you get into cubing?
- since August 2022, I had a friend who was attending competitions and he taught me how to solve the 3x3

➡️ What is your favourite event and why?
- I really enjoy skewb because of how the fingertricks feel once you’re able to master them, and the intuitive learning of more complex algorithm sets

➡️ What do you feel is your biggest cubing achievement so far?
- Probably my 3.09 skewb single which was really good for me at the time as I was only averaging 5.5 when I got it. I also really enjoyed it when I was able to use an NS algorithm in a skewb solve for the first time

➡️ What would be your bucket list cubing event to go to?
- Definitely Worlds, I’m saving up right now to go to Seattle 2025 next year

➡️ Describe your first cubing competition
- African Championships 2022 was my first competition. I can remember the vibe around seeing over 100 cubers in the same place for the first time, and also the privilege of being able to meet with cubers from across the country and the globe for the first time. I only competed in the “basic” 3x3 and 2x2 events back then, but it’s definitely one of my favourite experiences as I got to be part of such a big competition for the first time.

➡️ What do you do outside of cubing?
- I’m a big fan of football, and the statistics and tactics surrounding it. I’ll also do a lot of reading in my spare time, I’m a big fan of science fiction books.

➡️ Give us an interesting, non cubing related, fact about yourself
- I can write the alphabet backwards in 10 seconds

➡️ How long have you been cubing, and how did you get into cubing?
- I started cubing casually 11 years ago (in 2013!), but only started competing and learning speedsolving in 2016

➡️ What is your favourite event and why?
- Has to be Multiblind. Nothing more special than solving so many cubes blindfolded

➡️ What do you feel is your biggest cubing achievement so far?
- My first ever multiblind success in 2022 which saw me win the event ahead of Duncan Hobbs (the African Record Holder). Sorry Duncan!

➡️ What would be your bucket list cubing event to go to?
- Definitely a World Championship. Seattle 2025 maybe?

➡️ Describe your first cubing competition
- Super fun, it was the first time I got to meet other speedcubers so definitely special

➡️ What do you do outside of cubing?
- I’m a qualified Medical Doctor working at Baragwanath Hospital

➡️ Give us an interesting, non cubing related, fact about yourself
- My only other hobby is reading (work keeps me busy!), and I’m big on science fiction.

Meet the cuber at African Champs, Heinrich de Lange! @hein_cuber (22) from Bloemfontein, South Africa.

➡️ How long have you been cubing, and how did you get into cubing?
- I’ve known how to solve a Rubik’s cube for 10 years but first started cubing since 2019 when I wanted to improve and saw online that there were competitions in South Africa.

➡️ What is your favourite event and why?
- Megaminx, I prefer more intuitive events rather than algorithm-based events. Megaminx provides you the opportunity to be more creative because you have more layers to work with (less restricted) so there are many ways to solve cases. It is also the event that I’ve been the best at which adds a lot to my enjoyment.

➡️ What do you feel is your biggest cubing achievement so far?
- My 37.95 second megaminx African record single.

➡️ What would be your bucket list cubing event to go to?
- I would love to attend the World championship just to meet other cubers.

➡️ Describe your first cubing competition
- My first competition was Arnold Classic 2019 which was an amazing venue. It was very scary and intimidating because that was the first time I met people much faster than me. I eventually got over the fear and found most people there to be very pleasant. It was a worthwhile experience and opened the door for my cubing career. I also came third in megaminx and that is what accelerated my interest in the event.

➡️ What do you do outside of cubing?
- Most of my time outside of cubing is spent programming, going to the gym and gaming.

➡️ Give us an interesting, non cubing related, fact about yourself
- I have over 3000 hours in Dota 2.

Meet the cuber coming to African Champs, Waseem Hoosain! @cubingwaseem (22) from Pietermaritzburg, KZN.

➡️ How long have you been cubing, and how did you get into cubing?
- I’ve been cubing for around 8 years now. A family member of mine had an old Rubik’s cube laying around and it intrigued me. I learned how to solve it just so I could know how to but then I heard about speedcubing and Felik’s 4.73 3x3 single and this just amazed me. I wanted to see how far I could get and how much I could push myself. I wanted to be on top and break records and that’s just what I’ve done :).

➡️ What is your favourite event and why?
- It would have to be OH (One Handed). OH has been one of my favorite events because I know I am really competitive at it. It’s also one of the events where it really is a spectacle to watch when the solvers are quick

➡️ What do you feel is your biggest cubing achievement so far?
- My Biggest achievement in cubing so far has to be my 10.66 OH single I set at last African Champs. This broke one of the longest standing records in Africa (Moez Boussarsar 10.87) that stood for almost 4 years!

➡️ What would be your bucket list cubing event to go to?
- World Championships. I’ve never been to a cubing competition outside of South Africa before and I’d really love to experience the international style of Competitions.

➡️ Describe your first cubing competition
- I was super nervous going into it. I didn’t know if I would do well in anything. There were a few competitors about 3 seconds faster than I was but in the end I pulled through clutch and won my first cubing competition at my first cubing competition!

➡️ What do you do outside of cubing?
- I love playing online video games and going to the gym!

➡️ Give us an interesting, non cubing related, fact about yourself
- I held a go-karting record at a track for almost 2 years!

➡️ How long have you been cubing, and how did you get into cubing?
- I have been cubing since December 2018, the main thing that got me into cubing was my parents encouraging me to after breaking my finger, as it was a good tool for physiotherapy.

➡️ What is your favourite event and why?
- My three favourite events are 3x3, 5x5 and clock. I enjoy how much skill the first two require and I think clock is really fun.

➡️ What do you feel is your biggest cubing achievement so far?
- My first nr average definitely has been my biggest achievement so far.My first sub 1 5x5 average felt much bigger but that’s not in competition yet.

➡️ What would be your bucket list cubing event to go to?
- Definitely worlds or a 24 hour comp

➡️ Describe your first cubing competition
- My first competition was quite weird.I enjoyed competing but I didn’t really talk to anyone.I also left quite early since we had to drive back to PE,ain’t no way I was missing those 15 minutes of English.

➡️ What do you do outside of cubing?
- I used to play video games.Now I mostly read,draw or cycle.

➡️ Give us an interesting, non cubing related, fact about yourself
- I am a Leicester city fan🦊

➡️ How long have you been cubing, and how did you get into cubing?
- It’s been almost 7.5 years now (wow!). I started cubing in early 2017 when a friend showed up to school one day and could solve a 3x3. I went home and got myself one, looked up a tutorial and a day later I was going at it.

➡️ What is your favourite event and why?
- I’ve got to stick with Multi-Blind. The satisfaction of taking off a blindfold after an hour of (sometimes brutal) mental exertion and seeing so many solved cubes is just amazing and keeps you pushing for more cubes.

➡️ What do you feel is your biggest cubing achievement so far?
- Having held an African Record in all blindfolded events, and achieving top 100 for 4x4 Blindfolded Mean (even though that didn’t last long!)

➡️ What would be your bucket list cubing event to go to?
- Definitely a European Champs, would love to explore Europe a bit and meet some of my online cubing friends.

➡️ Describe your first cubing competition
- Amazing! As soon as I started socialising, I felt very at home, more than at any other hobby/sport communities I have experienced. It got me hooked, soon I was competing in all events and going to every competition I could.

➡️ What do you do outside of cubing?
- I’m currently studying towards a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

➡️ Give us an interesting, non cubing related, fact about yourself
- I love capybaras.

Meet the cuber at African Champs, Ruben Grobler! @rubengrobler (20) from Johannesburg, Gauteng.

➡️ How long have you been cubing, and how did you get into cubing?
- I have been cubing for 9 years, I started in 2015 when I was in grade6. I had a made a friend with a new student who brought cube to show the class he could solve it in about 60 seconds, I was instantly hooked into the idea of solving this puzzle and I haven’t stopped learning and practicing since.

➡️ What is your favourite event and why?
- 2x2, I love the idea of solving a fully scrambled puzzle in under 2 seconds and using creative ideas to find the entire solution before starting your solve.

➡️ What do you feel is your biggest cubing achievement so far?
- Definitely between my No1 rank for sum of ranks in Africa that I have kept for a few years, and my results in 2x2 such as my African record average and being the only African under 2 seconds!

➡️ What would be your bucket list cubing event to go to?
- A world championship, to see what the community is like overseas and to be able to watch and interject with the fastest cubers in the world is something I need to experience one day

➡️ Describe your first cubing competition
- It was a Joburg competition in 2015, I competed in 9 events and loved every second of it, I looked up to the faster cubers and made so many friends just in that one day, it was also my first time being around other people that can solve a puzzle that isn’t the 3x3, so being able to spend time with people as interested in cubing as I am is the reason I will never stop competing :)

➡️ What do you do outside of cubing?
- I am currently in second year at Wits university studying industrial engineering and work part time as a maths tutor and cube coach 👀

➡️ Give us an interesting, non cubing related, fact about yourself
- I love making music! My main instrument is the acoustic guitar and my girlfriend and I are releasing our original songs! You can find us on any platform as “Heidi Nel” 😎

Meet the cuber at African Champs, Ayooluwa Samuel Dada! @d_ayooluwa (22) from Nigeria.

➡️ How long have you been cubing, and how did you get into cubing?
- I have been cubing for 9 years, but attended my first WCA competition 2019. I had a math teacher back in Nigeria, Mr. Bamidele Fatoyinbo, who taught me and some of my other classmates how to solve a 3x3 rubiks cube. Since then, Ive been interested in how puzzles work, and kept trying to get better at solving them

➡️ What is your favourite event and why?
- Megaminx. I was asked by Don Joson (Filipino speedcuber) to compete in the event, since Nigeria didnt have an official megaminx record yet. I decided to, got double NRs, and stuck to it in honour of him, and cause its a pretty interesting niche event

➡️ What do you feel is your biggest cubing achievement so far?
- Getting a Continental Record. It was a rewarding moment, because I know how much work I had put into practicing.

➡️ What would be your bucket list cubing event to go to?
- Worlds 2025 for sure.

➡️ Describe your first cubing competition
- Actually, my first cubing competition was removed by the WCA, due to some regulation issues, but it was a really fun experience. I met some cubers Im still very close with. Just being around people who enjoy doing something as much as I do was one of the best moments I had experienced.

➡️ What do you do outside of cubing?
- Go to church, play drums, Basketball, Football,and post-grad (Medicine) classes

➡️ Give us an interesting, non cubing related, fact about yourself
- I can do a backflip :)
